Error during installation
I am new to DVDInfoPro. I downloaded the latest version 6.028 from your website and attempted to install it. The installation appeared to hang so I terminated and deleted two (?) log files that had been placed in the installation directory. When I tried to reinstall, I got a message "Error opening file for writing". I tried rebooting and reinstalling but I still got the same message. Attached is a snap of the error message.

I've assigned this to Nic to have a look at, but it looks like it is the toolbar installer that is causing the issue. Try installing DVDInfoPro without the toolbar...

Hi, I am not getting this report from anyone else at all, and I have tested the installation on all pc's here and my beta testers report no problem either, your fault maybe local especially considering that the installer uses windows msi.

Multiple Burns in One Session Crash
Found while burning a set of discs that if multiple burns occur in one execution of the program, system resources are exhausted and the program will eventually die.
collect 4 .ISO images. Drag and drop image one in MagicBurn. Burn ISO image to DVD. Delete ISO image from MagicBurn file list. Repeat with the other 3 .ISO files. Eventually, system will slow down and MagicBurn will begin to stutter (exhausting input buffer repeatedly). Continued execution beyond this point shows that MagicBurn will become unstable. Exiting MagicBurn and restarting appears to resolve the issue.
Test system description: CPU: Intel I7 920 RAM: 6GB DDR3 System Disk: Western Digital 300GB VelociRaptor Work Disk: Seagate 1.5TB Barracuda X 2 DVD Burning Drive: Plextor BD-R PX-B940SA DVD Testing Drive: Lite-On iHAS424 X 2 Normally, resources on this system are not a problem. This is the first time I have had an insufficient resource problem since I put this system together 18 months ago...

Problem adding files to burn
There appear to be three methos by which files can be added to the list of file to burn. 1. Use the Wizard 2. Ignore the wizard, and use the green PLUS icon 3. Drag and drop the files/folders onto the list area. I could not make either of the first two methods work. The SELECT button keps flickering, but none of the files/folders I selected were added to the list. In contrast, when I used drag and drop, it worked fine.
As noted above
Possible I have a setting wrong. If so that's good news. However, if that is the case then perhaps we should be looking for a more intuitive method?

Music files when choosing Data Disc or Data CD causes numerous message boxes and fails to work.
In Auto mode, when you add mp3 or wav files, then choose to make a Data Disc, you will get lots of message boxes you cannot close without another popping up and you cannot make the disc, especially when using DVD media

Close Check-Box Unchecked Without Warning
While burning a disk, I did not notice until after I started the burn that the 'close disc' check box was unchecked. This is the first time this has happened. Once the burn finished, There was no way for me to close the disc. The result is a coaster.

You did not say if this was a Wizard or non-wizard burn. Most wizard burns should do that for you, for non-wizard there is no fix for this, as the close command cannot be sent after the burn starts. right now I have no idea how I would go about fixing this. if its a wizard burn then its a bug but you have not stated that.

Trojan in v6 trial version
On downloading and installing the current V6 trial version of DVDinfo Pro, Lavasoft Ad Aware reports a W32 Banker trojan in one of the DLL files installed in the install directory. This is about as serious as it gets
I've looked on the DVDinfo pro website to see if I can report this and was surprised to find there is no support link or contact details whatsoever!

This is a fake hit, its finding the encryption code, its been reported to many virus authors as a false hit some respond, and others dont, ignore it its totally safe. when you think "as serious as it gets" you must be sure of what you are saying and not just beleive some virus program many have lots of false hits. Not setting .iso default association
When I have a program that I like to use for a function, I like to make it the default for that file type. After installing MagicBurner, I right-clicked on a .iso file to make MagicBurner the default app for that file type. MagicBurner is not listed. I selected 'other programs'. MagicBurner is not listed. Not sure if this is intentional, but looks like an oversight in the installation/setup.
Start on a windows 7 x64 system without MagicBurner installed. Double-click on a .iso file and the default application (e.g. Nero) should be launched. Install MagicBurner. Rignt-click on a .iso file. Select 'open with'. Look for MagicBurner in the recommended programs list. When not found, click on 'other programs' and note that MagicBurner is not listed there either.

This requires command line parameters to be supported. Some are but very few, I may add more over time but this is a low priority for me right now. (Put in a blank disk and that pop up has the program in it as no parameters are needed).

Program not retaining settings from one execution to the next.
When running MagicBurner, it will launch with a set of defaults checked. If the default values are changed, I would expect that the next time I run the program, the same settings are in effect until I change them. This behavior would imply the presence of a 'restore defaults' button so installation defaults may be restored.
Launch MagicBurner. Change any setting (e.g. change burn speed from auto to 4x). Run the program. Exit. Re-launch MagicBurner. The setting that was changed in the previous execution has reverted to the previous setting (e.g. burn speed is auto).

Wizard settings are all FIXED settings. For non wizard settings there are currently not many save features for non wizard, there are some such as last drive used, but not everything is saved. any you think should be save put then in as a feature request. Wizard changes though will never be saved.

CRC check optical media doesn't open when already started and view is changed
1. Start CRC check on optical media 2. When it is running, switch to 3rd Info (which displays also Windows CD Key) 3. Click on Errors for optical media icon, nothing is happening -- i also can't switch to another option as i get "You must stop the test first" When closing the program it crashes then.

It is correct that you cannot switch to another option while scanning, no functionality has been put in to do inter function multitasking and multiple threading. The info button should not be available in that mode, so there is a bug there, the fix will be to disable other options while testing so they dont get interrupted.

Incorrect display of BD DL graph data files (IBG's)
Tested in v6.126 It doesn't display the graph from an IBG of a BD DL properly. It only shows the upward slope as speed increases from inner to outer but there's no downward slope as it reads the 2nd layer and speed decreases (i.e. as you'd see on a DVD DL disc - using OTP of course).

Can you please send me an ibg file that demonstrates this bug. Nic

NicW
16/11/09 09:17
BTW, have you found a way yet to detect exactly where the second layer starts for BD?
(0000726)
NicW
16/11/09 09:31
I am struggling with this as I dont make the graph go up or down, each pass it supplies a floating point value to the graph class, that value plots the graph higher or lower depending on the data, so I dont "switch" to make it go up or down, this is directly fed from incoming data.
(0000727)
LIGHTNING UK
16/11/09 20:45
Then I expect the issue is coming from the lack of a defined layer break point within the IBG file. The data is certainly in the file as the other plotting tools that support IBG files show all the data correctly and you can of course see it by opening the file in notepad or whatever. I'll email over an IBG later today.

NicW
16/11/09 23:03
The problem would seem to be the RPM calculater needs to know the layerbreak and so relies on MEDIA_LAYER_BREAK, without it it cannot possibily know where the layerbreak is, not sure how this can be fixed.
(0000730)
LIGHTNING UK
17/11/09 00:57
Yeah but shouldn't it still be able to plot the actual speed values even if the RPM can't be calculated?
(0000731)
NicW
17/11/09 07:21
yes however the speed values are plotted directly from the incoming data from the ibg calling the exact same plotter as DVD-DL uses, I dont alter them, nor do I care with the layer change is. Send over an IBG so I can figure this out with actual data rather than looking back over old code blind. :)

Default Settings and Device
It would be really nice if the application offered the option of specifying a default drive and default settings. This could be used to enable drag-and-drop burning where a ISO file is dragged and dropped on the desktop MagicBurner icon to initiate a burn to the default device with the default settings for that device.
